Nov. 7, 2020, Panama City, Florida. I was not there, nor do I know what I was doing. Chris Nikic was a there and doing something I will never do.
16 hours and 46 minutes later, he became the first person with Down Syndrome to complete an Ironman race. In case you don’t know, it is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile marathon run.
A few days ago, he posted on X, “Every year I set one big goal and then I get 1 Percent Better everyday until I hit the goal.” His goal is to get better at something, his seems to be race related, every day.
What if I decided to love people more and became better by 1% more every day? What if I spent 1% more on healthy eating or spent 1% more time with my family or saved 1% more every day?
What if I put my device down 1% more? What if I gave 1% more time being sober? What if I gave 1% more time in being in the moment? Get where I am going?
Chris finished his race. It began with a goal and a first few steps of training. Then after training, he signed up and began the race. 16 hours and 46 minutes later, he completed that race.
What can you begin? What change for the better could lead to a new you? It may take you more or less time than it took Chris. It might be harder or easier overall. Deciding and then starting are all that is needed to be 1% more ________.
